With the Lunar New Year approaching, Times Square Causeway Bay is hosting the "KNOT KNOT HAPPY NEW YEAR" Lunar New Year celebration from now until March 3, 2026. Themed around the auspicious knot, the celebration combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Through various large-scale art installations and interactive experiences, good fortune, blessings, reunion, and hope are tied together, bringing abundant blessings and good luck to the entire city. The Lunar New Year decorations extend from the ground-level open-air plaza to the second-floor atrium. In addition to the ubiquitous auspicious knot decorations, a giant 4.5-meter-tall peach blossom tree is set up in the second-floor atrium, symbolizing abundant wealth and prosperous relationships. During the Lunar New Year, a variety of festive activities will be presented, including impromptu calligraphy demonstrations by veteran calligraphy teacher Chan Sin-fat, as well as a series of live performances, sketching workshops, and traditional craft workshops, allowing citizens to savor the festive atmosphere and welcome a new year full of blessings and joy. Times Square invited Sonija Kwok, who recently starred as Qin Qing in the popular film "A Step into the Past," and Yanny (Liu Qiting), a member of the popular girl group Lolly Talk, to be among the first to visit and take photos. They even tied hand-woven auspicious knots into the Lunar New Year decorations, welcoming a new year filled with blessings and joy.

The open-air plaza launched a Lunar New Year blessing journey, with five auspicious knot decorations conveying blessings.

The auspicious knot has long symbolized good fortune, connection, and fulfillment, and is an important symbol of wishing for a bright future in Chinese culture. This Lunar New Year, Times Square uses the auspicious knot as its theme, symbolizing the tying of blessings and connecting everyone with their wishes and good luck. The open-air plaza features five themed Lunar New Year decorations, blending traditional New Year elements with modern design aesthetics. There's also an interactive experience called "Tying a Ruyi Knot," where users can scan a QR code to learn how to tie a ruyi knot themselves, using a lucky knot to express their wishes. The completed knot can then be tied to designated decorations within the plaza, becoming part of the overall New Year decorations. As the blessings increase, it symbolizes ever-growing good fortune.

Upon entering the plaza, the first thing that catches the eye is the towering and striking 3.5-meter-high "Wealthy Ruyi Knot" art installation. A golden knot is inlaid in the center, symbolizing wealth and fulfillment, while the tassels are interwoven in a soft and festive gradient of pink and purple. The small circular platform containing the ruyi knot is decorated with three-dimensional ruyi knots in pink and purple, cleverly incorporating embedded lighting, ensuring the giant ruyi knot remains the focal point day and night, signifying lasting good fortune in the new year.

Continuing along the path, you'll enter the immersive light and shadow space of the "Ruyi Illuminated Corridor." Composed of countless New Year lanterns and auspicious knots, layered and interwoven, this installation creates a festive atmosphere enveloped in blessings. As night falls, the lights illuminate the surroundings, casting warm shadows and conveying auspicious wishes, allowing visitors to welcome the New Year with joy and hope amidst the shifting light and shadow.

Behind the "Auspicious Lantern Corridor" is the interactive installation "Blessing Flower Arch," a three-dimensional semi-circular structure covered in pink and purple three-dimensional flowers, creating a dreamlike effect. Inside, mirrored kaleidoscope installations on both sides welcome visitors, sure to become a popular New Year's photo hotspot! Visitors can also scan the designated QR code on the 5th floor of the mall to watch the "Hand-Tying Auspicious Knots" tutorial and follow the instructions to tie their own auspicious knots! Tie your heartfelt wishes with lucky knots and hang them in designated decorative locations throughout the venue, becoming part of your New Year's decorations—the more good fortune you tie, the more you'll accumulate!

The open-air plaza is adorned on both sides by four "Welcoming Blessings Kaleidoscopes." Inspired by firecrackers, each installation is topped with a giant auspicious knot, symbolizing reunion and connection. A hexagonal kaleidoscope at the center, through the refraction of light, infinitely extends the "福" (Fu, meaning good fortune) character and New Year patterns inside, creating ever-changing visual effects, signifying continuous good luck and boundless blessings in 2026.

The "Auspicious Double Knots" interactive installation reinterprets the traditional auspicious knot with modern aesthetics. Its clean lines and vibrant colors make it a stylish New Year landmark. Two auspicious knots, one purple and one gold, complement each other, with gold and silver mirrors at their centers. They can be rotated by hand, allowing everyone to personally bring good fortune and prosperity for the new year.

The blessings continue in the second-floor atrium: Golden ingots and peach blossom trees gather wealth and blessings.

The festive atmosphere extends from the open-air plaza to the second-floor atrium, with the overall design continuing the auspicious knot theme. A giant peach tree, 4.5 meters tall, stands in the center of the atrium, housed within an art installation inspired by gold ingots. Its rich colors and layered patterns symbolize prosperity and good fortune in the new year. To the left and right of this tree are two large-scale New Year decorations. One side features a weaving loom theme, using colorful fabrics and knots to weave continuous blessings. The other side boasts a layered "velvet and warm auspicious wall," adorned with numerous velvet auspicious knots of varying sizes, symbolizing abundant good fortune and offering every visitor a wish for a fulfilling and prosperous new year.

Times Square specially invited Sonija Kwok, who played Qin Qing in the hit movie "A Step into the Past," and Yanny (Liu Qiting), a member of the popular girl group Lolly Talk, to be the first to check in. The two strolled through the large auspicious knot installation art, praising the arrangement for its combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics, which was very thoughtful. Sonija Kwok said, "I'm so happy to be among the first to check out Times Square! Every decoration is so thoughtfully designed. I especially love the 'Auspicious Lantern Corridor,' where the layers of interwoven New Year lanterns and auspicious knots create a wonderful festive atmosphere. The 'Auspicious Double Knots' combines modern aesthetics with traditional auspicious knots, its vibrant colors and impressive presence reminding me of 'A Step into the Past,' where the time-traveling plot and the art installations that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics share a similar charm!"

Yanny also excitedly shared, "Every art installation in the venue is exquisitely designed, and the pink and purple tones are so 'girlish,' perfect for taking photos! My favorite part was making my own auspicious knots, which I could then tie to the lucky charm stand—it was so interactive!" "I recently watched the movie 'A Step into the Past' and was very envious of the friendship between Xiang Shaolong and Qin Qing. Today, I got to take photos with 'Qin Qing' (played by Sonija Kwok) in front of a giant peach blossom tree—what a treat for fans!"

Afterwards, Sonija Kwok and Yanny made auspicious knots by hand and tied them to their New Year decorations. Sonija Kwok said, "Making auspicious knots by hand is really meaningful. Calligraphers create calligraphy on the spot; diverse arts and craftsmanship experiences celebrate a bountiful New Year

Times Square will present a series of exciting live performances, impromptu creations, and interactive experiences during the Lunar New Year, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, bringing everyone abundant blessings and craftsmanship surprises to celebrate a prosperous Year of the Horse!

Handwritten Spring Festival Couplets

To convey New Year's blessings through traditional calligraphy, Times Square is hosting a special event before the Lunar New Year where calligraphers will write Spring Festival couplets on-site. Simply present any electronic receipt from Times Square today to take home a heartfelt blessing! Award-winning calligrapher Ye Meifeng will be on-site to write couplets for the public, and on February 4th, veteran calligraphy teacher Chen Xinfa will also be demonstrating his skills. Since 1997, Chen Xinfa has been writing Spring Festival couplets for the public every Lunar New Year. His unique "Dynamic Chen Style" calligraphy, characterized by vivid strokes and rhythmic lines, is beloved by the public. He believes that calligraphy is not just about words, but also a display of dynamism and vitality, imbuing each couplet with power and good wishes.

Musical Performances

Times Square will present several live musical performances, blending traditional New Year melodies with contemporary pop tunes. These performances will retain classic charm while showcasing innovative rhythms, bringing a festive and joyful experience to everyone. Live performances include a fusion of Chinese and Western music by local band DIZonant. DIZonant is known for blending traditional Cantonese music elements with modern Western jazz arrangements, reinterpreting classic melodies with innovative techniques, injecting a refreshing auditory experience into the Lunar New Year. On other designated days, the venue will also feature traditional Chinese music performances and energetic a cappella performances, showcasing rhythm and emotional tension through pure vocal harmonies, adding a diverse and rich artistic atmosphere to the festival.

Sketching Creation

Capturing heartwarming moments for couples and families with a modern artistic touch, Times Square has specially invited local illustrator @dear__project to create on-site sketches, leaving citizens with sweet memories of family reunions with a fresh and charming style. Traditional Craft Experience

Chinese knots symbolize happiness, wealth, and longevity, a knot that lasts forever. Flour figurines are a traditional folk art, where you can create vivid and exquisite auspicious figurines. During the Lunar New Year period, the mall's 9th floor will host Lunar New Year-themed workshops, including flour doll making and rope knotting workshops, allowing children and adults to experience the beauty of traditional crafts together. A donation of HK$20 on the spot will allow you to learn from a traditional crafts instructor and create a unique Lunar New Year handmade gift! On designated days, a nostalgic canteen will also be set up, where chefs will demonstrate the process of making dragon beard candy and glutinous rice balls.
